At the 2011 Dayton Hamvention, I had the opportunity to spend several hours walking through the outdoor flea market. It is similar to other hamfests, except on steroids. The flea market is very large, and the range of items for sale is staggering. If you have the chance, I urge you to visit the hamvention and especially the flea market. Think of it as a pilgrimage to make at least once. It was also a beautiful day, which is often not the case at Dayton.
As I was walking through the acre after acre of rows, I spotted the Kenwood Twins. This is a receiver (R599) and transmitter (T599) pair that came out around 1974. I was in college at the time, and in no place to buy a new radio, or even have time to operate it. But, I could look at the ads and dream. For whatever reason, that radio made an impression. I also was taken by the Yaesu FTDX-560 around the same time.
I had my camera with me, so I had to take a picture. It is in the gallery below, although out of focus! Right after taking that picture, I realized that the flea market was chock full of radios representing the history of the hobby. I decided to take pictures of radio boxes, and then create a picture gallery. I set out to walk the whole outdoor area and take radio pictures, but I'm sure I missed many boxes along the way. The pictures I took are in the gallery.
