W8WWV - cialog History

This page describes the cialog revision history. You may find it helpful in determining if a fresh download is in order.

The software version number consists of a major and minor version number, in the form of major.minor, 5.8, for example. This would be major version 5, minor version 8. In general, a change in minor version number is associated with relatively smaller program changes that have the property that all existing registry and file data will by compatible with other minor versions in the same major version. The major version changes when it is no longer desirable or possible to reuse all existing information. In this case, the new major version install program will perform a conversion so that the upgrade looks and feels like the older version, to the greatest extent possible.

Most users will find that each newer version, without consideration of changes in major or minor numbering, is subjectively better than the older version, and downloading the newer version is always a good idea. A higher version number is indeed better.  In some cases, changes made across major versions may cause a user to actually prefer an older version. For this reason, the highest released minor version number of each major version number may be available for downloading. Within a major version, however, only the most recent minor version will be available.

The history information listed below details the changes made to a program. This will include bug fixes and feature enhancements. By examining the table, you can determine if a certain version will be of value to you.

Version Maj. Min. Date Description
1.05 1 5 Apr. 22, 2004 Initial release from this web site.
1.06 1 6 May 3, 2004 Fixed a bug in the serial communications code. On Windows 98, the communication would often fail, but it worked on Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
1.07 1 7 May 12, 2004 Fixed the spelling of the word resistance on several dialog boxes. Added several transmission line models. These lines model several popular open-wire lines (300, 450, 600 Ohms).  Printing now respects the Font/Pen Size selection. Black and white pens now respect the Font/Pen Size selection. Improved the accuracy of the vertical reference lines (placement on the graph). Added a keep awake mode, which periodically commands the CIA-HF so that it does not automatically shut itself off. Added the display of the complex impedance at a given frequency on the status bar, through the use of the control and shift keys. Added optional reference line labels.
1.08 1 8 October 11, 2004 Fixed a bug which caused the program to fail when more than two files were loaded in multiple file mode. Allowed the export of a single loaded file, in addition to captured data.

Added support for the N2PK VNA.

1.09 1 9 October 31, 2004 Fixed a bug where an attempt to display a horizontal reference line would crash the program, if the data span on the graph was a single value. Also added a table to the documentation which shows the effect of changing the VNA conversion rate on the time it takes to make a measurement.
